Tortugas Win by Slim Margin, 5-4
|
Though the conditions were not ideal, the Daytona Tortugas and Dunedin Blue Jays came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
The Daytona Tortugas picked up a win at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium, topping the Dunedin Blue Jays, 5-4. On the mound for Daytona was right-hander Dave Vallejo. He played a principal role in the triumph. Vallejo yielded 3 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 12-6.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Jacob Van Noy came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Dunedin pitcher Jose Romero, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Daytona on top, 4-3.
Van Noy told the Daytona News: "I'm the straw that stirs the drink."
The second-place Tortugas go to 75-51.
