The Dunedin Blue Jays got a sterling performance from pitcher Alex Lopez, but the Daytona Tortugas still prevailed, 3-2. Lopez threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The first-place Blue Jays now sit at 82-46.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Jacob Van Noy came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Dunedin pitcher Miles Glass, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Daytona on top, 3-2.
"To become 'battle-tested,'" said Van Noy, "you need to compete in this kind of contest."
