Mets Come Back Late to Top Cardinals, 4-2

Palm Beach got a valiant performance from pitcher Chris Kinnie, but it wasn't enough to beat the St. Lucie Mets. St. Lucie won the game, 4-2. Kinnie threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. Gene Allen, 10-3, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. The first-place Mets, at 99-32, now lead their division by 9½ games.
Had John Pennell not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Pennell hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Mets.
Afterward, Pennell deflected to his teammates. "Heck of an effort all around," he said.
