Fading Threshers Lose 6th Straight
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the St. Lucie Mets and the Clearwater Threshers, Ronnie Birdsall was the difference-maker. The St. Lucie right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. Birdsall, now 8-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Gene Allen, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 24th save.
Had Cesar Contreras not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Contreras hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Mets.
"We're scuffling right now," said losing manager Mike Kretzschmer.
St. Lucie has a record of 102-32, placing them first in the FSL South.
