Vargas, Lake Monsters March to 7-0 Victory
|
Wet weather did not postpone the Vermont-Brooklyn ballgame.
Riding the 3-hit performance of the 21-year old center fielder Juan Vargas, the Vermont Lake Monsters defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones, 7-0. The winning pitcher was Matt McDonough. His record now stands at 1-0. The right-hander went 5.2 innings, allowing no runs on 3 hits for the Lake Monsters. Jose Rosario picked up the save for Vermont, his 1st of the year.
The Lake Monsters got a big at-bat from catcher Luke Swindle. For the game, Swindle went 1-4 with a triple. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 1st triple of the season gave Vermont a 2-0 lead.
Swindle attributed the win to his team's "dogged determination."
The Lake Monsters, now 3-1, have been playing some good baseball.
