Great Lakes Loons starter Troy Novell pitched a strong game against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Ballpark, leading the Loons to victory, 7-6. The win was credited to 25-year old left-handed pitcher Sal Iracheta in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Jason Harris took the loss. West Michigan now is 1-2.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Josh Buffington came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing West Michigan pitcher Jason Harris, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Great Lakes on top, 7-6.

"The name on the front of this uniform is all that matters to me," Buffington told the Great Lakes Today. "And padding the Great Lakes win column."
