The South Bend Cubs marched over the Dayton Dragons, 13-4, at Fifth Third Field. Sergio Mendez led the charge. He went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. South Bend is now 5-3.

South Bend used a well-timed hit by Edgar Guzman to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"We hit the ball on the barrel," said South Bend manager Roy Ofstad.
