South Bend and Lake County got after it at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium.

South Bend pitcher Colt Vasquez had a large part in his team beating the Lake County Captains, 5-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winning pitcher was Vasquez, now 1-0. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 6.

The Cubs got a big hit from third baseman Mike McGinley. Facing Lake County pitcher Vinny Guerrero in the bottom of the sixth, McGinley pounded a 2-run double to center. His 1st double of the season put the Cubs ahead, 4-0.

"I'm just happy to help the team win," McGinley told the South Bend Times.
