Close Win Moves Hot Rods to 3-7
|
Fans watched the Bowling Green Hot Rods and the West Michigan Whitecaps fight to the finish.
Bowling Green Hot Rods starter Jason Wengerd turned in a sterling performance against the West Michigan Whitecaps, leading his team to a slim, 1-0 win. In 6 innings, Wengerd surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 5 and walking 4. He allowed no runs.
The Whitecaps had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hot Rods going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old first baseman Danny Diaz came to the plate. Diaz hit a solo home run on a full count fastball from West Michigan hurler Jesus Rayas. It was Diaz's 1st home run of the year.
"That's baseball," said West Michigan manager Noah Fourie. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
The Whitecaps, 4-6, continue their poor start to the 2108 campaign.
