Great Lakes turned a good effort from starter Humberto Rivera into a win over the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Ballpark. The final score was 4-1. Joey Lawhead earned the save for Great Lakes, his 1st of the year. The Whitecaps fall to 5-8 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2108 season.

Great Lakes used a well-timed hit by Jeremy Strickland to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Loons ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"I was hoping to make good contact," said Strickland. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
