Bowling Green Ballpark was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
Bowling Green got a first-rate effort from pitcher Pat Thompson, who frustrated Lansing hitters en route to a 1-0 Hot Rods triumph at Bowling Green Ballpark. Thompson picked up the win for Bowling Green, going 7.1 innings. He gave up no runs on 2 hits. He now sports a record of 1-3. The save was credited to Amari Pedicone, his 3rd.
The Lugnuts had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Hot Rods going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Josh Melchior came to the plate. Melchior hit a solo home run on a full count changeup from Lansing hurler Ronnie Mehaffey. It was Melchior's 2nd home run of the year.
"There are times you get yourself out and there are times you come through," Melchior said. "That's how it goes."
Lansing falls to 8-11.
