The South Bend Cubs reigned over the Lake County Captains in damp conditions.

The Lake County Captains could not turn a fine performance from pitcher David Tracy into a win. Instead, the South Bend Cubs prevailed, 4-1. Tracy threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner was South Bend reliever Dan Petti, now 2-0. The loser was Bobby Richman.

In the bottom of the seventh, South Bend third baseman Seth Hood had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Hood stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 4-1, South Bend. For the game, he went 1 for 4. He drove in 2 runs.

"Makes our job easier," said Hood, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."

The loss drops Lake County to 11-8.
