Loons Rebuff Cubs, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring game between the Great Lakes Loons and the South Bend Cubs, pitcher Troy Novell was masterful on the mound. The Great Lakes left-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. The winner in relief was Antonio Villanueva. He is now 3-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. The Cubs, 11-11, continue their so-so start to the 2109 season.
Third Baseman Adam Tudor made an impact for Great Lakes, when he swatted a run-scoring double off Brian Adams in the bottom of the fourth. For the contest, Tudor went 2 for 3 with a double.
"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Novell.
