Jonathan Guzzetta pitched well, but his team, the South Bend Cubs, still dropped a 3-2 decision to the Clinton LumberKings at Ashford University Field. Shane Mattila was called on to finish, recording his 1st save. The defending champion LumberKings are off to a horrible start to the season, notching only their 11th win in 28 games.

Vince Byrd came through for Clinton with a solo home run in the bottom of the third. The designated hitter went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 3 RBI.
