Late Rally by Cubs Locks Up 6-3 Win
The Peoria Chiefs got a superb performance from pitcher Jason Romanchik, but the South Bend Cubs still won the game, 6-3. Romanchik threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. Omar Zaragoza, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. Jose Camacho was credited with the save for South Bend, his 4th of the season.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Wilson Ruiz came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Peoria pitcher Trent Berry, he hit a 2-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting South Bend on top, 4-3.

"We did a lot of things right," said Ruiz.

South Bend now has a record of 21-12 with the win.
