Kernels Rally For 3-1 Win

Cedar Rapids and South Bend duked it out and the Kernels came out victorious.
South Bend got a terrific performance from pitcher Sean Anderson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Cedar Rapids won the Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium contest, 3-1. Anderson threw 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Diego Valdes recorded his 2nd save for Cedar Rapids.
Cedar Rapids used the timely hitting of Tony Sanchez to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Kernels on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll build on this win," said Sanchez.
The Cubs, now 8-26, have lost 5 in a row.
