Cubs Win at Quad Cities, 8-3
|
The South Bend Cubs polished off the Quad Cities River Bandits by the score of 8-3. The largest share of the credit belonged to right fielder Peter Welde. Welde went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk for the Cubs. South Bend reliever Tony Melendez picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Jody Pascoe took the loss. The Cubs upped their record to 16-18.
Rickey Tucker came through with a big-time hit for South Bend. The left fielder smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 6-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Tucker said. "We did a good job of that today."
