Peoria got a valiant performance from pitcher Ray Blasetti, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kane County Cougars. Kane County won the game, 3-1. Blasetti threw 8.0 innings allowing 1 run for the losing team. The Cougars, at 24-14, sit in second place in the Western Division.
Kane County got a knockout punch from Luke Russell. The left fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Russell said in his postgame press conference.
