Kernels Beat River Bandits, 4-1
|
Cedar Rapids and Quad Cities duked it out and the Kernels came out victorious.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels went home winners at Modern Woodmen Park, thanks in large part to starter Corey Braziel. Braziel stifled the Quad Cities River Bandits, enabling Cedar Rapids to grab the 4-1 win. Braziel yielded 1 run over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 1-0. Ian Pandelo sewed up the save, his 8th.
Cedar Rapids used the timely hitting of Jose Marzan to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Kernels on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Watch and learn," said Marzan. "This is what good pitching looks like."
The Kernels go to 18-20, putting them 6th in the Western Division.
