Great Lakes turned a good performance from starting pitcher Rob Gardner into a 4-2 triumph over the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Bowling Green Ballpark. The winner was Gardner. He threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Joe Taylor. The second-place Loons have won 5 straight.

Great Lakes used the timely hitting of Bryan Blevins to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Loons on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Gardner.
