The Fort Wayne TinCaps got a stellar performance from pitcher Phil Barbara, who handcuffed the Lake County offense en route to a win, 2-1, at Classic Park. Blake Carpenter, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 9th save. Fort Wayne, at 22-18, holds down 4th place in the Eastern Division.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning when the TinCaps sent 22-year-old third baseman Jose Noriega to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a sacrifice fly, to put Fort Wayne on top, 2-0.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Barbara said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
