South Bend took on Lansing in front of a lively crowd.

Getting a good performance from designated hitter Peter Welde, the South Bend Cubs defeated the Lansing Lugnuts, 9-4. Welde was 2-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Cubs. Reliever Fernan Lameiras picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Jose Rios, who leads the MID in innings pitched with 71.1, took the loss. Ryan LaBrasca recorded his 10th save for South Bend.

Early in the game, Welde had a 2-run home run for South Bend. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Cubs on top, 2-0.

"I was able to square up some pitches," said Welde.

The win gives South Bend a season record of 21-21.
