Kernels Bang Out 6-2 Win Versus Beloit
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Beloit Snappers.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels grabbed a win, 6-2, over the Beloit Snappers at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Cedar Rapids catcher Jon Diaz went 1-2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs. Press Kitchen earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record is now 3-2.
The Snappers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Kernels going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old second baseman Ray Ramsey came to the plate. Ramsey hit a run-scoring double on a 3-1 fastball from Beloit hurler Paul Hilborn. It was Ramsey's 1st double of the year.
"The vibe's good," said Cedar Rapids manager Cedric McGillis. "We've got to keep it going."
Cedar Rapids, at 19-32, occupies last place in the Western Division.
