The Burlington Bees got a magnificent effort from pitcher Joey Shelton, who kept Cedar Rapids hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Bees win at Community Field. The winning pitcher was Shelton, now 7-3. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. Ernie Anderson was credited with the save for Burlington, his 6th of the season.

The Bees got a big at-bat from second baseman Josh Thomas. For the game, Thomas went 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Burlington a 2-1 lead.

"Every loss hurts," said Cedar Rapids manager Chris Glasspoole. "But this was a tough one."

With the victory, the Bees record stands at 39-18.
