Cougars Drop River Bandits, 5-2
|
Kane County beat Quad Cities in a rain-soaked ballgame.
The Kane County Cougars beat the Quad Cities River Bandits, 5-2. Kane County pitcher and Fairland, Maryland, native Mel Celaya led the way. The 7th-place Cougars are 20-39.
Kane County used the clutch hitting of Jason Ontiveros to snag the win. The center fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cougars ahead, 5-1. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"Mel's stuff looked really, really crisp," said Robby Bilodeau, the Cougars manager.
