The Bowling Green Hot Rods and South Bend Cubs provided some drama for the home crowd.

The South Bend Cubs defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 7-6, at Bowling Green Ballpark. South Bend center fielder Lee Johnston had a superb performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winning pitcher was Travis Wyckoff. He's now 4-4. He went 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits for the Cubs. Daniel Arteaga earned the save, his 2nd, for the Cubs.

Johnston had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth to put South Bend in front, 4-1. With the bases loaded, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run off Bowling Green pitcher Angelo Garza.

"They played a better game than we did," said Bowling Green skipper Ernesto Torre.

The 'W' lifts South Bend's record to 30-31.
