Roberts Stars in 10-5 Whitecaps Win
No one was more impactful than Rick Roberts in the 10-5 West Michigan win over South Bend. Roberts, who is tied for 8th in the MID in RBI with 34, went 4-5 with a triple and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Tim Wood earned the win, while 22-year old right-handed pitcher Tris Johnson took the loss for South Bend. Francisco Martinez collected save number 1.

West Michigan used the timely hitting of Alvaro Torres to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Whitecaps ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Torres told the West Michigan Chronicle.
