Hot Rods Best Cubs in Pitching Duel
|
Starting pitcher Scott Ahl fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Bowling Green Hot Rods stymie the South Bend Cubs, 2-0. Ahl yielded no runs over 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 4, and struck out 3. His record improves to 3-9. Mark Burrell notched his 6th save in 7 chances.
Bowling Green took a 2-0 lead on Fernando Garcia's 3rd home run of the season. The solo home run, which Garcia hit in the bottom of the seventh, left South Bend pitcher Dan Petti visibly frustrated.
"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said Bowling Green manager Francisco Pereyra. "That's what Scott is right now."
Despite the win, the Hot Rods have a lousy 22-50 record.
