Victory Pushes Loons Record to 51-24
|
Great Lakes Loons starter Rob Neal pitched a strong game against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Ballpark, leading the Loons to victory, 7-3. The winner was Erik Nasuti in relief. His record improves to 7-2. Carlos Burgos took the loss. The last-place Whitecaps have lost 14 consecutive games.
Great Lakes used the timely hitting of Joe Bateman to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Loons on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I can only hope we've hit rock bottom," lamented losing manager Phil Downer in postgame remarks.
