Benitez Hot, Bees Cold
|
It wasn't easy but the Peoria Chiefs made it look that way.
Starter David Benitez shut out the Burlington Bees despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Peoria Chiefs cruised to victory, 4-0. Benitez allowed only 3 hits and rang up 5 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
Up to now Benitez has recorded a record of 7-4. In 16 starts he has fanned 106 batters in 102.1 innings with a 2.46 ERA.
