Whitecaps Handed 3-1 Loss by Great Lakes
|
Great Lakes and West Michigan played a hard-fought contest.
The Great Lakes Loons, behind a great outing from Max Ponce defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps, 3-1, at Fifth Third Ballpark. Gregg Sharpe earned the save for Great Lakes, his 1st.
The Whitecaps had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Loons going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old left fielder Brian Hennager came to the plate. Hennager hit a run-scoring triple on a first pitch cutter from West Michigan hurler Allen Reed. It was Hennager's 4th triple of the year.
In postgame remarks, Hennager hailed his team's "single-minded determination."
Great Lakes goes to 42-34, West Michigan to 51-25.
