Quad Cities Bats Quiet in 7-1 Loss
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Cedar Rapids Kernels and Quad Cities River Bandits.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels went home winners at Modern Woodmen Park, thanks in large part to starter Dean Schuurmans. Schuurmans stifled the Quad Cities River Bandits, enabling Cedar Rapids to grab the 7-1 win. The Kernels improved to 42-41.
Cedar Rapids used a clutch at-bat from Brent Newhouse to capture the win. The second baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Kernels ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Newhouse.
