Dragons Drop Contest, 4-3, to South Bend
|
South Bend beat Dayton at Fifth Third Field, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to center fielder Wilson Ruiz. He was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times. South Bend starter Edwin Galdamez was credited with the win after throwing 90 pitches over 5 innings. His record now stands at 6-6. Picking up his 18th save was 19-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Camacho.
Brian Buell, who is tied for 2nd in the MID in stolen bases with 32, helped out the South Bend cause in the top of the fourth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the right fielder went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk.
"Whenever I help the team," said Ruiz, "it sort of justifies my place on the roster."
The 4th-place Dragons dropped to 46-39.
