Troy Novell, who is tied for 9th in the MID in quality starts with 11, was terrific for the Great Lakes Loons in his team's 10-0 triumph over the Peoria Chiefs. His performance earned Novell rave reviews. Felix Ramos earned the save for Great Lakes, his 2nd of the year. The Loons saw their win-loss record go to 69-22. At the same time, the Chiefs fell to 60-31.

Justin Mateo had a big bases-clearing double for the Loons in the bottom of the third inning. With Great Lakes leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher David Herrera and swatted a double to right. It was his 10th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Loons ahead, 5-0.

"Not much to say," Peoria manager Tommy Davenport said, when asked afterward about the defeat.
