Kane County Falls Again, 6-3

The Kane County Cougars could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Steve Grimsley into a win. Instead, the South Bend Cubs prevailed, 6-3. Grimsley threw 5.0 innings of 1-hit ball. The winning pitcher was Julio Medina. He's now 3-7. He went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits for the Cubs. J.R. Pearson, who is tied for 7th in the MID in saves with 10, nailed down the save.
South Bend used a well-timed hit by Jim Unknown to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 5-3. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"This game is going to humble you at times and you've got to man up and deal with it," said Kane County manager Justin Vernia.
The losses continue to add up for Kane County, having now dropped 8 straight.
