Lansing Defeats Burlington, 4-3
|
The Lansing Lugnuts topped the Burlington Bees, 4-3, in Midwest League action at Community Field. The standout performance belonged to Lansing pitcher and Dallas, Texas, native Denny Gurganus. In 6 innings, Gurganus surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Jose Herrera finished the game for Lansing and earned his 7th save.
Lansing used a clutch at-bat from Ralph Stewart to capture the win. The shortstop hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Lugnuts ahead, 4-2. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Both teams played hard," said Lansing manager Phil Phalen.
Lansing, at 40-54, sits in 7th place in the Eastern Division.
