South Bend beat Burlington at Community Field, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to right fielder Peter Welde. He was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The Cubs, at 47-47, sit in 4th place in the Eastern Division.

South Bend used a timely hit from Nate Barr to get the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

South Bend manager Roy Ofstad commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
