Jones Leads South Bend to 1-0 Win
|
In a tension-filled contest between the South Bend Cubs and the Clinton LumberKings, pitcher David Jones was superb. The South Bend right-hander spearheaded his team's 1-0 win. Getting the save was Shane Baggett, his 9th. Their 44-52 record puts the Cubs 4th in the Eastern Division.
Jones, who has sometimes raised the ire of coaches and teammates with his famously lackadaisical work ethic, turned in a spirited effort. The hurler struck out 8 in 8 innings and gave up no runs.
Jones moves to 2-2 on the year with 69 strikeouts.
"David did a tremendous job," said South Bend manager Roy Ofstad.
