The Bowling Green Hot Rods beat the Clinton LumberKings, 2-1. Bowling Green pitcher and La Victoria, Venezuela, native Hector Alvarez led the way. Alvarez, now 3-14, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Brent Watson was called on to finish, recording his 8th save.
Bowling Green used the hitting of David Buckner to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Hot Rods on top, 2-0. For the game, Buckner had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Hector kept his poise and got the job done," said Bowling Green manager Ernesto Torre. "He was outstanding."
The last-place Hot Rods hiked their record to 42-54.
