The Dayton Dragons knocked off the Beloit Snappers, 4-1, in Midwest League action at Fifth Third Field. Dayton pitcher and Long Beach, California, native Brian Cheeks had an outstanding performance. The winner was Cheeks. He threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Bruce Caruso.

Dayton left fielder John Meador contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a sinker to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 70th hit of the season and put the Dragons ahead, 2-1.

Said Beloit manager Jeff Brock: "You just have to tip your cap sometimes."

By defeating Beloit, the 6th-place Dragons improved to 49-51.
