The Lake County Captains topped the Lansing Lugnuts, 7-4, in Midwest League action at Classic Park. The standout performance belonged to Lake County pitcher and Barquisimeto, Venezuela, native Alex Gomez. Gomez, now 10-3, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Bobby Richman recorded the save for Lake County, his 20th of the season.

Joe Murphy helped out the Lake County cause in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the left fielder was 2-4 with a double. He scored 2 times.

"They beat us fair and square," Lansing skipper Robert Ely said.

The Captains saw their win-loss record go to 64-40. At the same time, the Lugnuts fell to 54-50.
