The bats were silent much of the day at Dow Diamond. But 23-year old second baseman B.J. Kingsbury produced just enough offense to carry the Loons past the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 3-1. Kingsbury went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. Great Lakes reliever Oliver Moreno was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Rich Lara. Earning his 35th save of the year was Eric Schmidt.
Great Lakes first baseman Eric Weter contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 70th hit of the season and put the Loons ahead, 3-1.
"We're obviously playing with a lot of confidence," said Great Lakes manager Ivan Cruz.
The first-place Loons have a record of 65-39.
