Peoria center fielder Matt Stripling had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Stripling went 2-3 with a triple and 2 walks. He scored 3 runs, even as Cedar Rapids beat the Chiefs, 7-5. The 6th-place Kernels are now 49-58, the Chiefs 67-40.

With Cedar Rapids leading 3-2 in the bottom of the third, Francisco de la Cruz hit a 2-run single off Peoria pitcher Lee Chandler. It put the Kernels ahead 5-2.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," de la Cruz said.
