Juan de la Pena impressed in the 8-4 Lansing win over Fort Wayne. de la Pena went 2-3 with a triple and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Lansing reliever Luis Rodas picked up the win to move to 1-0. Matt Cant suffered the loss. Glen Trecker recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 11 for 13.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Esteban Romero was at the plate when Lansing scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Lugnuts to go in front, 4-3.

"At the end of the day, wins and losses are really the only thing that matters," said de la Pena.

The defeat makes Fort Wayne 48-60.
