The South Bend Cubs walked off with a big win.
South Bend parlayed a decent outing from starter Francisco Barrientos into a solid win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods. The final score was 4-3. Ferrie Booij was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Dave Ralph.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 23-year old center fielder Anthony James had a chance to be the hero. Bowling Green pitcher Dave Ralph wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, James grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Cubs had themselves a thrilling win.
"This one wasn't over until it was over," James said, postgame.
South Bend goes to 55-54, Bowling Green to 48-61.
