The Great Lakes Loons beat the South Bend Cubs by a score of 5-4. Great Lakes center fielder Joe Matthews deserved the lion's share of the credit. Matthews went 1 for 3 with a triple and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Loons. Kevin Rivas earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 5-3. With the win, Great Lakes has a record of 76-33. South Bend falls to 23-86.

The game came to a sudden end. In the bottom of the tenth, with two out, Matthews drew a walk, driving in 1 run. It gave Great Lakes the 5-4 walk-off win.
