The Burlington Bees defeated the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 9-3, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Leading the charge for Burlington was first baseman Eddie Saldana. He was 2 for 5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Joey Shelton, the winning pitcher, improved to 9-8. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Carlos Ruiz was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 4 save opportunities.

With Burlington leading 2-0 in the top of the third, Saldana came up to bat against Cedar Rapids pitcher Joe Austin. Saldana hit a cutter to left for a 2-run home run. His 16th home run of the season put the Bees on top, 4-0.

"We didn't pitch good, and when you don't pitch good, you lose," said Cedar Rapids manager Chris Glasspoole.
