The TinCaps had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Whitecaps going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old first baseman Matt Garduno came to the plate. Garduno hit a solo home run on a 0-1 fastball from Fort Wayne hurler Bill Pierce. It was Garduno's 13th home run of the year.
