Burlington Rallies for 3-2 Win
|
The Burlington Bees earned a close win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels, thanks in part to Derrick Landry. The Burlington left-hander, who is tied for 7th in the MID with a 2.67 ERA, played a key role in the 10-inning, 3-2 victory. The win belonged to Carlos Ruiz in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Kaliu Tutu took the loss for Cedar Rapids. The third-place Bees have a record of 58-52.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Eddie Saldana came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Cedar Rapids pitcher Kaliu Tutu, he hit a first pitch cutter for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Burlington on top, 3-1.
During his postgame press conference, Bees manager Brian Zimmerman told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
