Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Chiefs
The Peoria Chiefs overcame a fine performance by Clinton center fielder Tommy Dwyer to defeat the LumberKings, 4-2, at Ashford University Field. Dwyer went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI. Peoria reliever Jeff Anderson was the winner. His record is now 3-7. The losing pitcher was Sam Beasley. Jerry Hicks earned the save for Peoria, his 2nd of the year.

Had Justin Willis not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Willis hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Chiefs.

"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Willis.

Peoria's record now stands at 49-63, placing them 6th in the Western Division.
