The rain made it unbearable at times; nonetheless, the faithful who endured the elements enjoyed themselves.

The South Bend Cubs topped the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 1-0, in Midwest League action at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of South Bend pitcher Mike Wallace. Jim Gamblin recorded the save, his 1st.

Wallace was in the zone all game. He frustrated Fort Wayne hitters while giving the Cubs 7.1 innings of quality work. Wallace threw 95 pitches, allowing 2 hits and getting 9 punchouts.

"I liked the focus, I liked the effort," said Cubs manager Mike Medrano.

Despite the win, South Bend still has a brutal 26-88 record.
